June Skin in Focus - Vitamin A

Friday, June 01, 2012
As skin ages, it has a tendency to slow down skin cell production. Retinol (Vitamin A) has exfoliation properties that slough away dead skin cells to allow new ones to grow. Regular usage restructures the skin and encourages continual regeneration. Retinol induces exfoliation, allowing skin cells "to function normally and continue regular cell renewal."

Skin loses elasticity over time, making way for the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Used a few nights per week, retinol will improve signs of ageing by aiding the production of collagen, one of the essential building blocks of youthful skin. As collagen is replenished and old skin cells are shed, facial discoloration reduces dramatically, fine lines recede and skin begins to reveal a softer, smoother texture. Collagen production slows down as the years fly by, thankfully, retinol ensures that new collagen keeps forming.

Vitamin A can resurface the skin dramatically and due to fresh new skin cells sitting on the surface of the skin, it can be more prone to sunburn. You must always use and SPF 30+ each and every day if you are planning to incorporate this fabulous ingredient into your skin care regime.

May Skin in Focus - Vitamin C

Thursday, May 03, 2012
Vitamin C , also known as L -ascorbic acid, magnesium ascorbal phosphate or Tetra Hexyldecly Acorbate is one of the most effective ingredients to use topically on the skin for anti-aging. At the correct Ph and strength, Vitamin C is one of the very few ingredients that has the ability to absorb into the deepest layers of the skin. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that slows the rate of free- radical damage -- free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C helps synthesise new collagen and elastin and helps to reduce pigmentation and age spots.

March Skin in Focus - Exfoliation

Friday, March 02, 2012
The process of exfoliation rids the body dry, dull skin by removing dead skin cells from the surface of the epidermis. By removing these dead cells, exfoliation can help keep pores from becoming blocked and leave skin with a refreshed and clean feeling. Clogged pores can result in blackheads and pimples. Furthermore, when pores are clogged, they appear larger. So, if you're worried about the size of your pores, although you can't reduce their actual size (genetics is the biggest factor in pore size), you can help diminish their appearance by keeping them clog-free. In addition to the immediate visual benefits of exfoliation, the removal of dead skin cells speeds up the skin renewal process( cellular metabolism), allowing smoother, healthier skin cells to take their place. Not only will this help with fine lines and wrinkles, but it will help to ease discoloration and pigmentation as well.. Exfoliation can be manual, chemical or ezymatic. Speak to your skin professional about which exfolation method is suitable for your skin.Once or twice a week for mild exfoliation, once a month for professional intense treatments -- can improve the results of your skin care routine and help rejuvenate your skin. Whether you have dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin, exfoliation can bring new life to your complexion.

February Skin in Focus - Sunscreen!

Wednesday, February 01, 2012
When buying a sunscreen, is important to achieve an adequate physical block from UVA and UVB damage. Look for ingredients such as Zinc oxide and Titanium dioxide. Chemical blockers also prevent UVA damage with ingredients listed such as methoxycinnimate and octyl methoxydibenzolmethane. Generally the difference between a supermarket SPF30+ and a Salon SPF30+ may be, that the ingredients such as Zinc oxide or Titanium dioxide are microfined for a better application. They may be void of chemical blokers that cause irritation and skin sensitivity. They may even have added key ingredients to benefit the health of the skin. A good quality sunscreen is your number one anti-ageing product and should be the first purchased above all others.

7 Steps to Beautiful Skin in 2012

Wednesday, January 18, 2012
Your skin is a reflection of the overall health of your body. Lifestyle choices literally make their mark on your face. Just follow these commonsense guidelines below for skin preservation, and you'll be sure to keep your skin looking great for a lifetime.

  • Cleanse. Regular cleansing rids the skin of excess oils and dirt and sloughs off dead skin cells.
  • Exfoliate regularly. Regular Exfoliation ensures cell turnover takes place to keep your skin cell cycle speedy and healthy. It will also means that your mineral foundation sits perfectly and that you also gain maximum penetration of your active serums and moisturisers.
  • Use Sunscreen every day regardless of whether you are directly out in the sun. While a little vitamin D is essential, remember that the freckles you are trying to fade, the red capillaries that you are trying to prevent along the wrinkles you spend so much time trying to eliminate are all caused by exposure to the sun.
  • Consume & Apply Vitamins A C and E. A healthy diet full of antioxidants A, C, and E helps fend off free radicals from everyday exposure to air pollutants, sun, and stress.Topically applying Vitamin A and C in serums assists reducing pigmentation and helps to produce new collagen ( super anti-ageing ingredients)
  • Exercise and Drink Plenty of Water. Exercise increases circulation, which helps nourish collagen fibres that give skin its appearance of plumpness, while perspiration from your workout decreases toxins. Water hydrates the skin from the inside out, always reach for a glass of H20 before soft drink or fruit juices.
  • Do not Smoke. Avoid smoking and breathing second-hand smoke, which causes blood vessels to constrict, inhibiting blood flow and starving the skin of oxygen.
  • Use mineral Makeup. Makeup is worn by women almost every day of their adult lives. It is normally the last product we think of that may be causing breakouts and blemishes on our skin. It is best to keep the skin breathing with a good quality mineral based Makeup like Youngblood of cours

    IPL Explained

    Thursday, June 23, 2011
Intense Pulsed Light [IPL] is a popular non invasive treatment used to permanently reduce unwanted hair and improve many skin conditions. IPL uses specific wavelengths in the visible light spectrum measured in nanometres, which are absorbed into melanin (the dark pigment in your hair and skin) and haemoglobin (the red colour in your blood vessels). This light converts to heat, which damages the target cell whilst leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.

A cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated, and you will be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. The smooth glass surface of the IPL hand piece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band. The appearance right after treatment is similar to what you will see after a good exercise workout. The flushing and redness will last from a few minutes to several hours after treatment. If your skin is quite loose you may experience some swelling. The brown age spots and uneven pigmentation will turn much darker after treatment and will flake off within 3 to 10 days.

Treatment is generally administered in a series of 6 to 12 sessions that provide excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effects and high satisfaction. Each treatment takes about twenty minutes. Depending on the number of conditions you are treating, and the severity of the individual problem, a series of six to12 treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your daily activities. In some cases for minor capillaries only one treatment is required.
